Stelco Research Centre: Part One

In the ’60s, throughout North America and abroad, steel company research centres popped up like weeds. Mr. Harold Griffith, Executive Vice President of Operations, felt, I assume, a Stelco Research Centre would enhance further his stature among his American confreres. (Griffith had grown up and received his education in the States.) The AIME had recently honored him with the Benjamin F. Fairless award, recognizing him for distinguished achievement in iron and steel production and ferrous metallurgy.
Griffith gave the order to proceed with the construction of a Research Centre.
