Projet Bessemer

Pilot Plant for strip casting At IMI, Boucherville, QC
After retirement Jock McKay was asked if would set up a Joint Venture Company to develop a viable strip casting process. Five Canadian steel companies were involved: IPSCO, ALgoma, Dofasco, Stelco, and Sidbec-Dosco.  He accepted the offer and
Jock, as Executive director, within a few months set up the company and began the daunting development task. He chose the name Projet Bessemer. Projet means project in French and plan in English.    Henry Bessemer, as you may know, developed the first mass production process for making steel. NRC's Industrial Materials laboratory in Boucherville served as the centre for development. Jock had worked with them in the past.
