Charlie Johnson Web Site

Charlie was hired in 1972.

(Charlie's books are no longer available for sale.)

Being here now...

We lived off the grid for about thirteen years and in that time had several medical emergencies, survived wild animal and nasty human attacks, learned to feed ourselves (for the most part) and have helped to change a few laws.  We've advocated for safe water, protection of beavers, helped stop illegal blasting, helped change mining law and generally shown up when required. A wise hermit told us our boundaries are "the dotted line around the property" and we lived by that boundary.

This life is not for everyone but it sure suited us. As we both get older we streamlined things; like making more permanent fencing to keep animals out of the gardens. We added a plow and an old Nissan to run it around so we hope winters will be a bit easier on us. We've given the chickens to our neighbour so we can still get our free ranged hen's eggs and we've given the bunnies away in favour of our local abattoirs meat and friends' fish catches.
Finally the time came to move and we have an 82 year old home in the
nearby town of Latchford, Population 400 people (in the winter) and likely double that in the summer. We are adjusting.

Elnora Meadowcroft May 23, 1936 – March 12, 2018

Happy days Elnora and Ray
OBIT
Much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elnora Meadowcroft passed away on March 12, 2018. She had a true love for life. After a long battle with declining health over the last few years, she succumbed to a chest infection.  Elnora was an active member of several organizations, including being the President of the University Women’s Club in Burlington, ON and on the executive of The Faculty Women’s Club in Vancouver.  Her favorite organization, however, was the Engineers’ Wives’ Association of Vancouver.  According to Elnora, they had the most fun. Elnora loved her family, loved to travel and loved her music.  She will be sorely missed. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross www.redcross.ca
